Click AAC is an experimental Augmentative and Alternative Communication app being developed by researchers from the School of Information Studies at McGill University, Canada.
We are conducting a research study to understand how to improve the application design. For more information about the study, please check the Call for Participation displayed in the Click AAC initial page.
How does Click AAC work?
1. The user takes a photo of something they want to talk about later (for example, a barbecue party)
2. The app automatically creates a page (similar to a Visual Scene Display) containing vocabulary related to what is depicted in the photograph. As in other AAC systems, users can reproduce computer-generated speech by clicking on the pictograms
3. After the page is created, users can remove undesired vocabulary items, edit and add new words and phrases, and reorder photos and vocabulary items.
Customization
Users can customize the size of each component in the interface according to their needs, and configure what type of vocabulary Click AAC will generate:
a) Descriptive: A phrase and words describing the scene photographed.
b) Related/Related expanded: Words with a certain relation with the elements in the scene photographed.
c) Narrative: Phrases and words often used to create personal narratives about the scene photographed.
The pictographic symbols used in Click AAC are the property of the Government of Aragón and have been created by Sergio Palao for ARASAAC (http://www.arasaac.org), that distributes them under Creative Commons License BY-NC-SA

I have the app, and did change the backgroundcolours, and deleted cells, but I was not able to chnage the words and sentences into finis. Is that possable?

I was going to ask you the same question about the French translation, it’s really great that it is coming. If you need help with translation, proofreading, correction, we are several speech therapists who could participate. My English is not good (thank you Google Translate) but my French is not too bad.

I wish there were a way to edit/delete/add pronouns to allow for a customized, and smaller, field (e.g., having ‘I/me,’ ‘you,’ ‘they/them,’ and ‘that/it’ to reduce cognitive load but still be highly practical and functional).
Hi Rachel! I’m glad you are excited to try the app with your patients. The need for the possibility to edit pronouns was indeed brought by many participants in our user study. Good news is that we’ve been working on a version 2.0 that will have this and a few other improvements. The new version should be out in the Fall
